You’ll need to guide this trio through various wildlands and dungeon-like areas as the adventure progresses. It goes a long way in making you fall in love with the place, as the world seems more worthy of your time and worthy of exploration beyond what's immediately expedient. Soon after the game begins, you’ll have a full team of three bugs. Just add more secrets and make the world capable of holding them. If they ever make a second game, those would really be my only complaints. This is really discouraging for secret finders, as you are immediately made aware that the world simply isn't collision modeled to actually handle something that's taken for granted in every paper mario game, and therefore the world feels a bit more hollow and lacking in secrets and polish. Even something as simple as jumping on a object in a house is typically made impossible. The second would be how little you can interact with the terrain. An excellent iteration of Paper Mario's gamestyle, and I think the first non-nintendo dev to do it well.īut what are the rough points for everyone?įor me the only two would be that the badge system had too many straightforward "mechanical" or "numerical" upgrades and not enough totally novel and strange ones, or just flavorful and for fun changes like sound effects, costume swaps, or things that cause unique interactions in the world or with characters.
